राजस्थान में जयपुर के पास एक इलाका है – लदाणा। पहले वह एक छोटी सी रियासत थी। उसका राजा एक बार शाम के समय बैठा हुआ था। उसका एक मुसलमान नौकर किसी काम से वहाँ आया। राजा की दृष्टि अचानक उसके गले में पड़ी तुलसी की माला पर गयी। राजा ने चकित होकर पूछाः"क्या बात है, क्या तू हिन्दू बन गया है ?"
"नहीं, हिन्दू नहीं बना हूँ।"
"तो फिर तुलसी की माला क्यों डाल रखी है ?"
"राजासाहब ! तुलसी की माला की बड़ी महिमा है।"
"क्या महिमा है ?"
राजासाहब ! मैं आपको एक सत्य घटना सुनाता हूँ। एक बार मैं अपने ननिहाल जा रहा था। सूरज ढलने को था। इतने में मुझे दो छाया-पुरुष दिखाई दिये, जिनको हिन्दू लोग यमदूत बोलते हैं। उनकी डरावनी आकृति देखकर मैं घबरा गया। तब उन्होंने कहाः
"तेरी मौत नहीं है। अभी एक युवक किसान बैलगाड़ी भगाता-भगाता आयेगा। यह जो गड्ढा है उसमें उसकी बैलगाड़ी का पहिया फँसेगा और बैलों के कंधे पर रखा जुआ टूट जायेगा। बैलों को प्रेरित करके हम उद्दण्ड बनायेंगे, तब उनमें से जो दायीं ओर का बैल होगा, वह विशेष उद्दण्ड होकर युवक किसान के पेट में अपना सींग घुसा देगा और इसी निमित्त से उसकी मृत्यु हो जायेगी। हम उसी का जीवात्मा लेने आये हैं।"
 राजासाहब ! खुदा की कसम, मैंने उन यमदूतों से हाथ जोड़कर प्रार्थना की कि 'यह घटना देखने की मुझे इजाजत मिल जाय।' उन्होंने इजाजत दे दी और मैं दूर एक पेड़ के पीछे खड़ा हो गया। थोड़ी ही देर में उस कच्चे रास्ते से बैलगाड़ी दौड़ती हुई आयी और जैसा उन्होंने कहा था ठीक वैसे ही बैलगाड़ी को झटका लगा, बैल उत्तेजित हुए, युवक किसान उन पर नियंत्रण पाने में असफल रहा। बैल धक्का मारते-मारते उसे दूर ले गये और बुरी तरह से उसके पेट में सींग घुसेड़ दिया और वह मर गया।"

राजाः "फिर क्या हुआ ?"

नौकरः "हजूर ! लड़के की मौत के बाद मैं पेड़ की ओट से बाहर आया और दूतों से पूछाः'इसकी रूह (जीवात्मा) कहाँ है, कैसी है ?"

वे बोलेः 'वह जीव हमारे हाथ नहीं आया। मृत्यु तो जिस निमित्त से थी, हुई किंतु वहाँ हुई जहाँ तुलसी का पौधा था। जहाँ तुलसी होती है वहाँ मृत्यु होने पर जीव भगवान श्रीहरि के धाम में जाता है। पार्षद आकर उसे ले जाते हैं।'

हुजूर ! तबसे मुझे ऐसा हुआ कि मरने के बाद मैं बिहिश्त में जाऊँगा कि दोजख में यह मुझे पता नहीं, इसले तुलसी की माला तो पहन लूँ ताकि कम से कम आपके भगवान नारायण के धाम में जाने का तो मौका मिल ही जायेगा और तभी से मैं तुलसी की माला पहनने लगा।'

There is a mention of the word “deep daan” in hindu classics. Literally it means lighting of lamp in front of deity. Specially in the month of Kaartik it is very important to light a lamp.It is considered as a powerful remedy for pacification of a planet in astrology. Also it is a tradition in Hindu’s regarding lighting a lamp before deity. It is considered very auspicious to light a lamp at the time of sandhya(twilight). During the days of special pooja a lamp is maintained continuously for certain number of days known as “Akhand jyoti” meaning unbroken light. Light is considered as a symbol of auspiciousness, prosperity and abundance in the Hinduism. Even in Feng-shui the use of light is considered very important to harness the positive effects of nature. Where as the darkness represent ignorance and inauspiciousness. Also the darkness is abode of ghosts and spirits. The wick in the oil lamp is a symbol of ego and the oil represents negative feelings. It is believe that unless ego,desires and negative feelings remove,the soul can not get rid off the bondage of rebirth. This burning of lamp is a symbolic representation of getting rid of desires and ego. The flame of a lamp always burns upwards. Similarly we should acquire such knowledge as to take us towards higher planes. So, next time friends, never miss an opportunity to light a lamp in front of your ishta devta to ward off the evils generated due to paap-karmas of past birth.

Marriage of Eldest Son in Jyestha Month

The eldest child in a family is called “Jyeshtha”.The word “Jyeshtha” is also use for one of the lunar month in Hindu calendar and for the nakshatra also. In astrology it is considered highly inauspicious the marriage of eldest child in a month of Jyeshtha.At the same time jyeshtha nakshatra add fuel to fire. The three Jyeshthas-the eldest child,the month and the nakshatra constitutes the “Tri Tara Dosha”. If we examine the above rule then one can find interesting correlation between the above cause and effect relation. The 5th house of a horoscope represent the eldest child. In kaal purush horoscope the 5th house is ruled by the planet Sun. During the period of Jyeshtha month, the sun transits through the “Ardra” nakshatra. This transit is very sensitive transit.Even all the weather forecasting is based upon this transit. Jyeshtha nakshatra falls in scorpio while Ardra nakshatra falls in Gemini. This is a 6/8 relation indicating death. Now counting from “Jyeshtha nakshatra” the Ardra nakshatra is 16 which is malefic(star of death).So, this malefic transit futher intensifies when all the three clubbed together. Even in case of emergency if marriage has to be performed, do make sure that other elements of muhurat should be strong enough.
