Nar & Narayan

In badrinath Dham there are two peaks behind the temple named as Nar & Narayan. In a previous incarnation the duo were supposedly born as the sages Nara and Narayana, and who performed great penances at the holy spot of Badrinath. Nara and Narayana were the avtar of Lord Vishnu. The twins were sons of Dharma and his wife Murti (Daughter OfDaksha) or Ahimsa..These two sages take avatars on earth for the welfare of mankind .There was an demon named Sahasra Kavacha. He had got boon of having 1000 Kavachas(armours). He had a boon that it will take 1000 Years to break each Kavacha, and the one ,who would break a Kavacha, would instantly die.Hence, first Narayana pennaced for 1000 Yrs and Nara fought 1000 Years with ShahasrKavacha and after 1000 Years, Nara was able to break his one Kavacha. As Nara broke the Kavacha,he died. But Narayan due his penance of 1000 Yrs could get back life of Nara and Narayan starts fighting and Nara starts penance for the next 1000 years.Nara and Narayana alternatively penace and fight for 1000 years and the cycle continued. At last, when they both were able to break 999 Kavachas. ShahasraKavacha hides himself behind the Surya with his last Kavacha due to fear that he would be killed by Nara and Narayana then. At this time, there was Pralaya(destruction) on earth due to the change of the Yuga. Thus ShashtraKavacha escapes death. In Dwapar Yuga,he was reborn as Karna with Kavacha and Nar and Narayan as Arjun and Krishna respectively.

Birth of Goddess Lakshmi

Sage Bhrigu was married to Khyaati who had two two sons Dhata and Vidhaata and a daughter Lakshmi. Lakshmi then married Lord Vishnu. This was the first appearance of goddess lakshmi. In her second appearance she appeared as the daughter of ocean. Once sage Durvaasa was wandering on the earth. He saw a beautiful girl with a garland. She presented the garland respectfully to the sage. Right at that moment, he saw Indra riding on Airaavat, the elephant. Instinctively, sage Durvaasa put that garland around the neck of Indra but Indra removed it and put it on Airaavat’s head. Airaavat pulled the garland with his trunk and smashed it on the ground. This whole sequence of events frustrated Durvaasa who cursed Indra that he will loose all his wealth. As a result Indra lost his wealth with a passage of time. Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi too didn’t stayed there. She made her abode in the abysmal depth of the sea. Very soon, the demons launched an attack on the gods and drove them out of heaven. Indra along with other gods approached Lord Vishnu. Pleased by their prayers, Lord Vishnu appeared before them and said-the only way to took out the lakshmi from the sea is to perform the churning of ocean with the help of demons. Following the advice of Lord Vishnu, the gods reconciled with the demons and convinced them to carry out the churning of the sea. Then they began the churning using Mandaraachal Mountain. As soon as the churning began, Mandaraachal began to sink. Lord Vishnu took incarnation of Kachchhap (the great tortoise) and bore the weight of the mighty mountain on His back. During the churning, Kamadhenu, the wishful cow was the first to emerge. It was presented to the sages as an aid for their Yagyas. It was followed by the Vaaruni devi, Kalpavriksha (the wishful tree) after which, beautiful apsaras appeared. The Moon followed the apsaras and was taken up by Shiva on His forehead. During the churning, huge quantity of poison had also emerged. It was drunk by Lord Shiva and some parts of it were taken up by the serpents. In the end, Dhanvantari himself emerged from the sea carrying the urn of ambrosia. It was during the churning itself that Lakshmi appeared once again from the sea holding lotuses in her hands. All the sages prayed her. Then taking bath with divine water, goddess Lakshmi took her seat in the heart of Lord Vishnu. When the demons saw that Lakshmi had chosen Lord Vishnu’s heart as her abode, they got perplexed. They at once snatched the urn from Dhanvantari and ran away. Then a row broke out among them over the drinking of ambrosia. Each of the demons wanted to drink ambrosia in maximum quantity. Meanwhile, Lord Vishnu also arrived there in the guise of an extremely pretty woman Mohini and took possession of the urn. Mohini had pleased the demons with her sweet smile while distributing ambrosia among the gods. Thus, the gods came to drink ambrosia. When at last, the demons realised that they had been cheated they immediately attacked the gods. But since the gods had regained their strength, they soon defeated the demons without much ado. Afterwards, the gods prayed Lord Vishnu and returned to heaven to rule it. Indra regain all his wealth. He prayed goddess Lakshmi with devotion and respect. Thus, Lakshmi had appeared as the daughter of Bhrigu and his wife Khyaati. Then second time, she emerged from beneath the sea during its churning. It is believe that one who read this story with devotion will never be deprive of wealth in his life.

Top 10 Creations

The duty of creation was assigned to Lord Brahma. In the following order the creations were done
(1) First Creation is of Mahat-Tattwa(The great Element). It consist of three Gunas - Sat, Raj and Tam.
(2) Second Creation is of Ahankaar
(3) Third Creation is of Bhoot Sarg from which five Tanmaatraa (smell, Tej, sound, taste, and Roop - form) of five elements are created.
(4) Fourth Creation is of senses - Karm Indriyaan and Gyaan Indriyaan.
(5) Fifth Creation is of Devtaa - Lord of all ten senses, created by Saatwik Ahankaar; including Man (mind).
(6) Sixth creation is of A-Vidyaa (darkness, or A-Gyaan, or ignorance). It is of five types - Taamistra, Andh-Taamistra, Tam, Moh, and Mahaa-Moh. They cover the intelligence of Jeev.
These were the six Praakrit Creations. Now listen to Vaikrit Creations.
(7) Seventh Creation is of six types of immovable trees. Trees
Vanaspati - which give fruits without flowers, e.g. Goolar
Aushadhi - whose life span is only one time, they destroy once the fruit has ripened on them, e.g. rice, wheat, gram etc.
Lataa - creepers - which grow with the help of something, e.g. Braahmee, Giloy and other creepers
Twaksaar - whose bark is very hard, e.g. bamboo etc.
Veerudh - the creeps which spread on land only and because of being heavy do not climb upward, e.g. melon, watermelon, etc.
Drum - where fruits replace flowers, e.g. mango, Jaamun etc.
(8) Eighth Creation is of Tiryak Yoni - animals and birds. They are of 28 types. They do not know about the Kaal (time) because of the excess of Tamo Gun. They know only eating and drinking, sleeping, enjoyment, and reproduction. Their smelling power is very sharp, but they cannot think.
(9) Ninth Creation is of human beings. This is of one type only.
(10) Devtaa; Pitar; Asur; Gandharv and Apsaraa; Yaksh and Raakshas; Siddh; Chaaran and Vidyaadhar; Bhoot, Pret, and Pishaach; and Kinner, Kimpurush and Ashwamukh - is eight types of Dev Creation. In this category first of all from his body of ignorance he created the Yakshas (spirits) and Rakshasas . Not satisfied with this creation Brahma gave up this body, which became the night. That is why they become mre powerful at night. Then from his body he created the Devas .After that he shed his body which became day. Then from his buttocks he produced the Asuras. Brahma then cast of the body & the body took the form of the evening twilight When Brahma gave up his body of anger, the hair turned into several species of snakes and the body turned into the Nagas or a race of snake-men.
Thereafter, the singing Lord produced the Gandharvas and the Apsaras, the celestial musicians and dancers. This body took the form of moonlight and the Gandharvas and the Apsaras claimed it for themselves. Moonlit nights are the time when the Gandharvas and the Apsaras come into their own. Next from his body of laziness Brahma created the Bhoots (ghosts) and the Pisachas (spirits). These ugly creatures took this body of Brahma, which became the sleep. These species took to haunting people in their sleep and driving them insane. From his invisible body he created the Sadhyas (the enlightened ones) and the Pitras (departed souls). It is through the medium of this invisibility that those versed in the rituals contact the Sadhyas and the Pitras. This body is also called “antardhana” which means being present but invisible, so that the Sadhyas and the Pitras can see what is happening but themselves cannot be seen. From his reflection in the water Brahma created the Kinnaras and the Kimpurushas, a crossbreed species that specialized in moving from place to place, singing ballads. The cast of reflection of Brahma became the daybreak. .Then, by turns, the Lord produced birds from His age, sheep from chest, goat from His mouth, cow from belly, horse, elephant, donkey, deer, camel, from feet . From the innumerable body hair of the Lord, fruits, flowers and herbs were produced. From His east-facing head, Lord produced Gayatri mantra, Rigveda, and Yagyas. From His south-facing head, He produced Yajurveda. From west-facing head, He produced Samaveda and from His north-facing head, He produced Atharvaveda.

Budhvaar ki kahani

The fast is observed to promotes happiness in life. The devotees listen to this story before breaking the fast. Wednesday is also connected with Planet Mercury. Once there was a newly-wed. On a Sunday, he went to his father-in-laws house to take his wife with him. It was the first time after marriage. He was welcomed by the in-laws and was provided with best food and bedding. He forgot the outside world as he enjoyed the hospitality offered to him Monday and Tuesday were spent in other pastimes. It was now Wednesday. He told his mother-in-law, I have an urgent piece of work today. You send your daughter with me Immediately. But today is Wednesday. Mercury is not favourable to girls on Wednesday. It is considered inauspicious sending daughters in their in-laws house. I shall not send my daughter today, said the mother-in-law. The son-in-law was adamant. He insisted on leaving the same day. The in-laws agreed to send their daughter with him. They arranged a chariot for the couple. Soon, the couple reached near a township. The girl was thirsty. She said to her husband, I am very thirsty. Please arrange some cold water for me. The husband agreed and went towards the township. Another youngman resembling her husband brought water for her. She could not distinguish between the two. She took him for her husband and had a good chat with him. In the meanwhile, her real husband appeared on the scene. He was surprised to see his wife chatting . Both the males quarrelled among themselves and claimed the lady as their wife. To resolve the issue they went to the king and told the whole story. The king asked his minister to administer justice. The minister said to the constable, It is late evening. Lock them up in separate cells. Arrange strict night watch. I will give my judgement tomorrow. All the three were locked up in separate cells. It was dead of night. The real husband was very restless. Next morning the guard narrate the behaviour of the prisoners to minister. The minister said, The man who had a restless night is the real husband. His wife should be restored to him. He should be freed. Produce the second person in my court. The guards went to the prison cell. They set free the real husband and his wife. They were happy to be together again. The guards went to the other youngman. His cell was empty though locked from outside. The minister smiled and said, The missing prisoner is Mercury. Mercury rules on Wednesdays. This man challenged Mercurys authority. He felt offended and disguised himself as her husband to teach him a lesson. Today Is Thursday. Jupiter rules on Thursdays. Mercury disappeared exactly at sunrise. So, next time never send your daughters to their in laws on Wednesday.

Creation of Universe

During the period of Pralay, the nature exists in a state of equilibrium. There was neither day nor night, neither earth nor sky and neither darkness nor light. It is during this period that Purush (masculine forces of creation) separates from Prakriti (feminine forces of creation) and Kaalroop of God (eternal, unending form of the Lord) is visible. Purush is the first appearance of Lord. Prakriti is the sign of His action while Kaalroop is His supreme appearance. The Lord entered the Purush who is beyond all bonding. His entry is the first step. From here Prakriti infuse the Purush and sets the process of creation further.

Let’s put it in different way. In this world every thing is made up of something. Objects are made of compounds. Compounds are made of molecules. Molecules are made of atoms. Atoms are made of particles. While one evolves out of the other, all of these levels of reality coexist and interact with one another. So too, is the construction of the human being. While the human is made of physical material, we are also constructed of subtler levels of reality, which are products of the invisible, primal essence called Prakriti in Sanskrit. Prakriti, which can be loosely described as unmanifest, primordial matter. This Prakriti ("matter") is infused with pure consciousness, which is called Purusha. Everything else emerges from Prakriti, and then is infused with Purusha. So, for example, all the levels of manifestation of the human are Prakriti, but have life due to the infusion of Purusha. Prakriti meant “that which give shape” Purusha is pure consciousness that sets the entire process of creation. Now how Prakriti forms different tools for itself, this is explain in following steps

Stage I-First of all, a single great element originated encompassing all the other lesser elements.

Stage-II From this great element originated three egos- Sattvic, Rajas and Taamas.

Stage-III Taamas created the subtle matter called tanmaatra. It’s name was sound

Stage-IV Sound created.sky

Stage-V The sky then created the sense of touch. Touch produced air. Hence, touch is the main feature of air; no one can see air but only have an experience of it through touch.

Stage-VI Air created Roop, which gave birth to fire with Roop as its main virtue.

Stage VII- Fire gave birth to taste. Taste produced water with taste as its main property.

Stage-VIII From water originated scent, which produced earth with scent as the main feature.

Stage IX The ego Rajas produced ten sense organs

Satge X Every organ has a ruling deity. But the ruling deities of these organs were produced by Sattvic ego

Stage XI The eleventh entity mind are Sattvic in nature. So mind control all the 10 senses

All these elements have unique powers. Without their combination, creation of the universe was impossible. In the beginning, all these elements were present in the great egg, which came into existence because of the inspiration of the Lord. As this ball increased in size, it formed the base as Prakriti in which, Lord Vishnu Himself entered as Hiranyagarbh.

Narad-The Wanderer

It was the duty of Lord Brahma to create the world. In the initial round he created the many creatures with the help of his mental resolution. That is why they were known as “ Manas Putra”. The word manas means “mind”. King Daksha was one amongst them. Lord Brahma ordered Daksha to create universe by the help of copulation. Daksha Prajapati then married Asikti - the daughter of Veerni. Five thousand sons, were born to them, they were known as “Haryashrav”. But Narad played the trick. He brainwashed the minds of all the sons and directed them to follow the path of salvation rather than path of creating universe. As a result they didn’t took participation in increasing the number of population. After that, Daksha married Panchajani from whom were born thousand of son called as “Shabalashrav”. Again Narad played the same trick. All of them went in search of their brothers and followed the path of salvation and never returned back. Narada had changed their mind. They became wanderers. When Daksha Prajapati came to know he became very furious with Narada and cursed him to become an eternal wanderer. He said- "You will never remain at a place for long because you have misguided my sons to became wanderers" . Also from that day it is believe that it is inauspicious to go in search of a lost person by his brothers

King Prithu-The Avtar of Lord Vishnu

In the lineage of the king Dhruv, was a king named Anga. Anga's wife was Sunita. They had a son named Vena. Since childhood Vena was evil by nature. Hence he grew up to become a very cruel ruler. After many attempt he could not able to change his attitude and his cruelty became aggravate day by day. One day the Sapt Rishis killed him for the sake of Dharma. They decided to churn his body to produce new king . From the legs of the dead king (whose body had been preserved), a dwarf was born. He was known as Nisada and his descendants were called the Naisadas. They inhabited the hills and forests and became hunters and fishermen. But Nisada had served the purpose of removing the evil from Vena's body so that a righteous king could be produced. This time the sages churned the arms of Vena's body and a couple was born. The male, Prithu, was an incarnation of Vishnu. The extremely beautiful female, Arci, was an incarnation of Lakshmi (Vishnu's consort). After Prithu had ruled for some time, the citizens approached him and said that they were starving because the earth refused to yield crops. Instead it gobbled up their seeds. Prithu took up his bow and fixed an arrow on it directed at the earth. As the earth saw him, she turned into cow and fled, afraid like a deer chased by a hunter. No matter where she went, Prithu was there. Realising that it was impossible to escape, she pleaded for mercy. As per the wishes of the earth, still in a cow's form, a calf was arranged for and out of affection for the calf, the earth gave plentiful milk to one and all. She soon began to yield crops and other material much needed by mankind. From this time onwards the earth came to be known as "Prithvi" or the daughter of Prithu.

The lineage of King Prithu was as follows

Bara Kaun?

Narada was extremely devoted Lord Vishnu. Once he had a doubt in his mind. Did his master, Lord Vishnu too consider Narada to be his most devoted disciple? He approached Lord Vishnu and put the question before him. Lord Vishnu told Narada that one farmer in a certain village was his most dedicated devotee. Narada became angry. To look into the matter he reached the village to observe the farmer. The farmer rose early in the morning. After completing his morning tasks he left for the fields. On the way he stopped at a temple and offer his prayer and left in few seconds. He worked hard through out the day. On the way back he again stopped at the temple for a few seconds. Narada watched the farmer for the next seven days but found no change in the man's activities. Narada rushed back to Vishnu's abode, and complained that how can a man who devote just few seconds could be greater devotee? Lord Vishnu said "I'll answer your questions later, In order to complete a ritual that I have undertaken for the welfare of the people of the world, I need you to go around the universe carrying this cup full of oil. But you must be extremely careful not to spill a single drop else all my efforts will be wasted." .Full with pride at being the chosen one, Narada set off. He started concentrating block out all thoughts from his mind to ensure that no oil fell from the cup. He returned in due course and returned the cup to his master told that not a drop had been spilt. Lord Vishnu inquired, "Narada, during your journey how many times did you remember me?" Narada humbly replied, "I didn’t remember you because I was doing your work ".Lord Vishnu explained, "The farmer who lives his life of poverty with no protection from the heat or cold and with bare food throughout the year, never complain but takes time twice a day to remember me. He does not ask for wealth or greatness but thanks me for what he has. This is why he, and many others like him, are my most loved devotees." Narada had learnt his lesson .

Freedom from Curse

According Puraan ,at the foot of the Trikut hill was a deep lake. A huge crocodile lived there. One day an elephant came there for a bath. The crocodile took the elephant's leg in his jaws and began to drag him deep into the lake. Despite all his attempt the elephant could not able to set himself free. The elephant, sensing that he was losing the battle, prayed to the supreme god Vishnu for assistance. There was no response.. The crocodile kept on pulling the elephant into the lake. Elephant was on the brink of death. Then he prayed Lord Vishnu for the last time. At this moment he mounted Garuda and came there to help elephant. Lord Vishnu kill crocodile with the help of chakra.
Both the elephant and the crocodile had been humans in their previous lives. The elephant was Indradyumna, a pious king. Once he was in a reflective mood and he did not greet the sage Agastya who had come to meet him. Agastya was famous for his rash temper and he changed the king into an elephant for this indecency. Indradyumna attained freedom from the cycle of rebirth after this encounter. The crocodile was a Gandharva chief named Huhu. Huhu was bathing in this lake with a crowd of Gandharva women. The sage Dewala was standing in the water meditating. To impress the women in his company he playfully pulled the sage by his leg. The sage cursed Huhu and changed him into a crocodile. Thereafter Huhu lived in the lake as a crocodile until he was restored to his Gandharva form by the sacred touch of Vishnu's disc. Because he had died at Vishnu's hands, he too secured a permanent place in heaven.

Weight of Lord Krishna

Satyabhama &Rukmini were the wives of Lord Krishna. Both were contrasting character. As Satyabhama was short tempered, the Rukmini was cool. Since LordVishnu was on earth as Krishna, there was trouble in heaven and he was needed there. So the Gods abducted him and took him to heaven. Satyabhama alleged that Rukmini was hiding Krishna so that she did not have to share him with the other queens. Narada told Satyabhama about Krishna's whereabouts and said that he could strike a deal with the Gods on her behalf. This would entitle her to special favours from Lord Krishna. After discussing with the Gods, he returned with the following proposal. If Satyabhama would give the Gods an offering that weighed more than Krishna, they would release him. This was a very easy proposal and she replied "I have enough jewels to weigh Krishna," said Satyabhama and asked Narada to bring Krishna from heaven for the weighing.
The weighing was arranged. Krishna was seated in one pan and Satyabhama began to load the other with gold and jewels. The vaults got emptied out but Krishna's pan did not move at all. The Gods were now ready to take Krishna with them back to heaven. The citizens of Dwarka then fell at Rukmini's feet, pleading that she do something to save their Lord. Rukmini first ordered the gold and the ornaments to be removed from the pan. While this was being done she went out and plucked a tulsi leaf & dropped it on the empty pan. The light leaf floated on to the pan and the pan went down and Krishna's side was swinging in the air. This story shows the significance of Tulsi and how a humble offering to God is greater than wealth. Since then people visiting Dwarka often make offering as “Tula Daan”. It means the donor is weighed against grains and other commodities purchased by him and these commodities equal to his weight are then given in charity. This is known as tuladaan - tula means scale and daan means charity.

Tale of Dhruv

The king Swayambhu Manu had two sons- Priyvrat and Uttanpad. King Uttanpad had two queens- Suniti and Suruchi. Uttanpad loved Suruchi more than he loved Suniti. As a result the son of suruchi called Uttam enjoyed all the luxuries than the son of Suniti ,Dhruv. Once the King was playing with his soon Uttam who was siting in his lap. Meanwhile, Dhruv too arrived there and began insisting to sit in his father's lap. Just then, Suruchi too arrived there. Boasting at her fortune, she ridiculed Dhruv: 'Though you are also a son of the king, but you have no right to sit on the throne because you are not borne to me.Even then if you wish to have the throne, you begin to worship Lord Narayana, and take birth through me by His grace and then wait for your chance to sit in the King's lap.'
When Suniti heard about the incidence, she felt very sorry. Still, with patience she consoled her son Dhruv, She told him:
1. If you have to beg for something, let that be from God!
2. However much you ask of a human being, it will be little.
3. Many a times asking brings with it, humiliation.
4. When God gives, he gives in plenty.
5. God will make you sit on his lap with love. He is the true father of Mankind.
6. Before you go, ask for the blessings of Suruchi.
7. Suruchi has spoken words of truth, even if you want the throne, pray to the Lord!
8. Go to the forest and perform penance.
I am not sending you alone, my blessings and God are with you.

Mother's words shook the conscience of Dhruv. He at once set out with firm determination to please Shri Hari by penance. He met devarshi Narad in the way. Sage Narad tried to test his determination. Narad tried everything to convince Dhruv to send him back to his home, but he failed to shake the firm determination of the boy. Then with kindness, Narad preached Dhruv about Lord's appearance and gave him a mantra. Thus, Naradji performed his duty as Guru Dhruv arrived in Madhuvan and took a seat under a Kadamb tree on the bank of the river Yamuna. There he began to recite the mantra and meditation. During the first month he ate roots and tubers. In the second month he ate dried leaves. During the third month he managed with Yamuna's water. During the fourth month he sustained himself on the air only. Dhruv even stopped breathing. Now, standing on one leg only, he was fully concentrated in Lord Vasudev. At the moment when Dhruv stopped breathing and concentrated in Parbrahma, all the three worlds shook with fear.
All the gods ran to the refuge of Lord. Because of stopping of breath all the organisms stood still. Assuring them not to be afraid, Lord arrived in Madhuvan to see His beloved devotee Dhruv. As the Lord stood in front of Dhruv, the latter did not open his eyes as he was already seeing the Almighty within his own heart. The Lord made the form that Dhruv was witnessing within himself, disappear! Dhruv became restless and opened his eyes Seeing the Lord Himself arrived before him, Dhruv's eyes filled with tears. He said, " O Lord, I don't know how to worship you." Lord touched his cheek with His conch. With that, Dhruv came to realize the glory of God. With complete devotion and folded hands, he worshiped Shri Hari: He exclaimed: "You are also within me! You are the one that makes my senses come alive! You are responsible for inspiring my intellect! You have the power of saving man from the cycle of Life and Death! You are capable of fulfilling all desires…and yet men ask of you that which will be the cause of their destruction! One can achieve You only by Your Grace!
Pleased by his prayer Lord stroked Dhruv's head and said, " Your desire shall materialize. After enjoying your kingdom, you shall come to my abode which is far above the Saptrishis? The Lord knew that Dhruv had started his penance because he had wanted to sit in his father’s lap. Dhruv was transported to the highest point of heaven, where he sits on his Divine father’s lap as the Pole Star, also known as the North Star..

On his return his father handed him the kingdom of the entire earth. Thereafter Dhruv ruled the earth for a period of thirty-six thousand years. Even death bowed before him. Indeed, the devotees of God have no fear of death.

Incarnation of Lord Vishnu as sage Kapil

Once Lord Brahma asked Sage Kardam to beget children so that population on Earth could continue. Kardam did tapasya at the bank of river Saraswati to please Lord Vishnu. Being pleased Lord Vishnu appeared and said, "Soon, king Swyambhuv Manu will come here with his queen. They will want to marry their grown up daughter Devhuti to you. After you marry her, you will have nine daughters from whom generation will continue. You will also have one son. I will Myself incarnate as your son." Saying thus, Lord Vishnu disappeared. Devhuti was the daughter of Manu and Shatrupa. She was very religious and beautiful. She had no materialistic desires that’s why she was interested to marry a sage rather than king. Her parents found Sage Kardam to be most suitable match for devhuti. They visited the ashram of sage. But rishi kardam put a condition that he will remain household only till the child is born. After that he will spent entire life in tapasya. Shatrupa and Devhuti gave their consent to this condition of the sage. Thereafter, Manu married his daughter to the sage Kardam. After marriage, Devhuti began to serve her husband with full dedication. One day impressed with her dedication he granted her a divine vision. At that moment she expressed her desire to have children. Kardam then resolved to fulfill the desire of his wife. At appropriate time, Devhuti gave birth to nine beautiful daughters. With this the resolution of Kardam was completed. He assured his wife: that very soon the Lord will appear as your son. Thus, Devhuti began worshipping the Lord. At appropriate time, the Lord appeared as her son Kapil. Meanwhile, Brahma also came there with nine Prajapatis, Kardam married his daughters to those nine Prajapatis. Kalaa was married to Marich, Anusuya to Atri, Shraddha to Angira; Havirbhu to Pulastya, Gati to Pulah, Kriya to Kratu, Khyati To Brighu and Arundhati was married to sage Vashishtha. When Kapil grew up, then Kardam propitiated his son Kapil because Kapil was Vishnu. Sage Kapil said to sage Kardam, "I have descended in order to explain Sankhya yoga. This knowledge was lost in the course of time. Therefore, I will impart this knowledge again. I will impart the same knowledge to my mother so that she can attain liberation". Taking leave from Kapil, sage Kardam left the house and became a sanyasi. When Kardam had left, then Kapil stayed with his mother Devhuti. One day Devhuti remembered words of Lord Brahma. Brahma had already told her that Vishnu would incarnate as her son to impart her knowledge. Devhuti asked Kapil to give her Divine knowledge. Accordingly, sage Kapil explained to her Sankhya philosophy. After several years, Devhuti attained salvation and that place is now known as Siddhipad. She shed her body, which became a holy river named Gyanvapi. After passing on this knowledge to Devahuti ,Kapila like his father left Bindu Sarovar.

Arundhati was alone in the forest. In the meantime a great famine occurred. For twelve years the famine continued. The rishi too stayed on in the Himalayas all those twelve years. During that time Arundhati had nothing to eat. She therefore started doing tapas herself. Lord Siva wanted to test her. He came to her dressed like an old Brahmin and asked for food. Arundhati said, "O Brahmin, I have only badari seeds to eat." Lord Siva said, "Will you cook these for me?" Arundhati started a fire. While frying the seeds in it. She told the Brahmin stories and talked of dharma. She neither ate nor slept, but went on explaining dharma. At the end of twelve years, the famine was over. Sage Vashishtha also-returned from the Himalayas. God Siva was pleased with Arundhati's tapas. So He took his real form and said to the sage Vashishtha, "Arundhati's tapas is greater than yours on the Himalayas!" . And he gave boon to her that she will be always remember as an ideal wife.
Even today rishi Vasishtha sits in the sky as a star. Arundhati also sits there by his side. Arundhati is the patron deity of marriage. Bharat Varsh ki Katha

Bharat was the son of Shakuntala and Dushyant. Dushyant was the king .Shakuntla was a daughter of Sage Vishwamitra and apsara Menka. Once while hunting in the forest, Dushyant saw Shakuntala. He fell in love with her and they married. Dushyant had to leave for his kingdom. He promised Shakuntala that he would come later and take her to Hastinapur. Once, lost in his thoughts, she forgot to serve Durvasa rishi when he arrived. Durvasa had a very short temper and he cursed her, "In forgetting to serve me, the one you were thinking of will forget you." Dushyant had forgotten Shakuntala because of that curse. He did not recognise Shakuntala when she went to Hastinapur. Thereafter, She did not have the heart to return to her father's ashram and started living in sage Marich's ashram. Here, unknown to Dushyant, Shakuntala gave birth to a son named Bharat. He was a very brave child. He was not afraid of anyone or anything. Bharat played with lion cubs everyday. Once, Dushyant happened to pass by the ashram. He watched a little boy playing with a lion cub. The boy opened the lion's jaws by his hands and said, " Open your mouth wide, so that could count your teeth." Dushyant was very surprised by the child's courage. Later Shakuntala came there and Dushyant realised that Bharat was his son. He was thrilled at this and hugged Bharat affectionately. Dushyant took Shakuntala and Bharat along with him to Hastinapur. Later Bharat grew into a great king. Our country's true name is Bharat (pronounced Bhaarat), named after him. Bharat is remembered by all for his bravery. Bharat was the most illustrious king of the dynasty. He expanded the empire greatly and was widely respected. Bharat had no son to rule the kingdom as a successor. So he adopted Bharadwaja as his heir. A descendant of Bharadwaja was Hasti who founded the city of Hastinapur, which was the capital of the kingdom at the time of the Mahabharata war. Hasti’s son Ajamidha had many sons who gave rise to dynasties of kings and Brahmins. However the Lunar dynasty continued through his son Riksha. Riksha’s grandson was Kuru. Several generations after Kuru was Shantanu, from whom the tale of Mahabharata commences.

Narka Chaturdashi

A day before diwali is celebrated as Narkchaturdashi. Narakasur was a demon king. He gained a boon from Brahma that he shall die only in the hands of a woman. Armed with the boon, he became a cruel king. He defeated Lord Indra (king of gods) and stole the earrings of Aditi (the heavenly mother goddess). When Satyabhama, the wife of lord krishna heard of the injustice being done to Aditi, she was furious. Satyabhama went to ask Lord Krishna, permission to wage a war against Narakasura, Krishna not only agreed, but also offered to drive her chariot in the warfield. On the day of the war, both the armies fought bravely and the war continued for some time. Satyabhama fought Narakasura bravely, but she was no match to him. After some days, when Narakasura got a chance, he took an aim at Krishna, hurting him lightly. Krishna fainted and made Satyabhama angry. She doubled her attack on the demon king and killed him finally. To announce the death of Narakasura, Krishna smeared the demon's blood on his forehead and returned the very next day along with Satyabhama to his kingdom. On their arrival, preparations were made to cleanse Krishna of the demon's blood. Thus, came Narakachathurthasi as a celebration of the death of the evil king. On this day bathing with oil is considered as auspicious.

Legend 2- This day is also considered as Kali Chaudash.. Goddeess Kali is the form of shakti. To kill the mighty demon Rakta-Beeja she took incarnation. This day is very important for tantriks. Legend behind Dhan Teras

Dhanteras is also known as Yamadeepdaan and lamps are kept burning through the night to pray Lord Yama to keep away death and despair. A very interesting story about this day is associated to the sixteen year old son of King Hima. As per his horoscope he was doomed to die by a snake-bite on the fourth day of his marriage. On that fateful fourth day of his marriage his young wife did not allow him to sleep. She laid all the ornaments and lots of gold and silver coins in a big heap at the entrance of her husband's palatial room and lighted infinite numbers of lamps all over the place. After all these, she went on telling stories and singing songs so that her husband is not able to sleep. When Yam, the god of Death arrived there appearing in form of a Serpent his eyes got blinded by the dazzle of those brilliant lights and he could not enter the Prince's chamber. Thus the young wife saved her husband from the clutches of death. Since then this day of Dhanteras came to be known as the day of "Yamadeepdaan" and lamps are kept burning throughout the night in remembering Yam, the god of Death. Thirteen lamps made of wheat flour and lit with oil are placed outside the house, facing southwards (direction of Lord Yama), in the evening. A lamp is never kept facing southwards except on this day.
Legend 2- Sage Durvasa cursed Lord Indra due to which Godess Laxmi abandon him. The demons, attacked heaven and defeated Lord Indra.Brihaspati, the Deva Guru found a solution. For that the ocean of milk had to be churned to become potent ambrosia, which, if consumed by the gods, would bring immortality. The churning would also bring back Lakshmi. Mandara Mountain was used as a churning rod and Vasuki, the king of the serpents, as a rope & Lord Vishnu, who took the form of a tortoise and lifts the mountain on his back. During the churning the divine goddess raised from the depths of the ocean of milk. She stood on a fully blossomed lotus, wearing a garland of lotus and neck. The sages began reciting hymns in praise of her. Gandharvas sang and Apsaras danced. Even the elephants on either side of her, sprinkled sacred Ganga water on her, bathing her with it, letting her be called Gajalakshmi. As she was born from the ocean of milk, she was referred to as Samudratanya. The king of the ocean appeared in his natural form and welcomed Lakshmi as a daughter The gods and demons continued to churn the ocean for Amrit. Ultimately, Dhanavantri emerged from the ocean of milk, carrying a jar of the amrit. Both the asuras and the devas wanted the ambrosia, but Vishnu was able to give the immortal nectar to the gods, and the asuras were defeated. The churning of the ocean resulted in the immortality of the devas and was the reason for Lakshmi's emergence.

Sandhya ki kahani

Kamdeva was son of Lord Brahma. He was a god of love. He was directed by Lord Brahma to help in the process of procreation by influencing people. At the same time Lord Brahma, creator god, created a beautiful female called “Sandhya”. To test the authenticity of Brahma's boon, Kamadeva took out his five arrows and wanted to examine their power. These arrows had effect of lust on Lord Brahma and Sandhya. Getting affected by those arrows, fourty nine types of thoughts emerged in Brahma's mind. Similarly, flaws were generated in Sandhya. Kamdeva became convinced of his powers and capabilities. But Dharma – another son of Brahma was saddened by this event. He prayed to lord Shiva. Everybody was ashamed because of reaching this news to Lord Shiva. Due to his shame, Brahmaji perspired profusely. From his perspiration were created the Pitraganas. Brahmaji was very angry with Kamadeva because of whom he was ridiculed by Shiva. He cursed him and said- "You would be charred to death by the arrow of Shiva." Later Sandhya did penance for her sin. She got boon of becoming chaste woman from Lord Shiva . Also she demanded that no body should have lust towards the member of his own clan. After this boon she sacrifices her life in fire. The fire burnt her body and carried it to the solar-system, where it was divided by the sun-god into three parts .The names of these three parts were Pratah-Sandhya, Madhyanha-Sandhya and Sayam Sandhya. From then onwards in each day there are 3 period of 2 ghati(each ghati=24 minutes)each which is considered to be very auspicious. That is why a couple who desires a virtuous child should avoid this period for “Garbhadhan Sanskar”.

Test of Tridev

Once sage Bhrigu wanted to know who among the trinity was the greatest: The Lord Brahma, Vishnu or Shiva. He decided to take test. He began with Lord Brahma. While Lord Brahma was reading the scriptures, Bhrigu came before him in a very arrogant way without bowing. Lord Brahma paid no attention towards sage Bhrigu. Later he scolded sage Bhrigu for showing disrespect. Next Bhrigu went to see Shiva. When Shiva saw sage Bhrigu coming towards him, he did not know how to greet him. In spite of this, Shiva grabbed sage Bhrigu and embraced him. Sage Bhrigu didn’t liked this way as Lord Shiva had a bhasm on his body This made Lord Shiva angry. Sage Bhrigu quickly left that place too. While on his way sage Bhrigu thought that how can Lord Brahma & Lord Shiva be greatest because they could not control their anger.Vishnu was the last member of the trinity to be examined by Bhrigu. When Bhrigu arrived at Vishnu’s abode, Vishnu was fast asleep. Sage Bhrigu thought to himself, “Since both Lord Brahma and Shiva showed their anger, let me see if I can also make Vishnu angry.” Then sage Bhrigu kicked lord Vishnu extremely hard right on his chest. Lord Vishnu woke up and immediately grabbed Bhrigu’s feet. “Are you hurt, are you hurt,? Please tell me. You kicked me so hard! I am deeply concerned that you have hurt yourself. Bhrigu replied, “My Lord, among the trinity— Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva –you are by far the greatest.”. It is said that the mark of Bhrigu’s foot is still visible on Vishnu’s chest.

Curse to Lord Vishnu

Once sage Narad was doing meditation for long period of time. He did that with such a strong will power that even Kamdeva could not able to disturb him. After that sage Narad was overwhelmed by feeling of pride. Lord Shiva listened to his arrogant statement. He advised Narad not to reveal this secret to anybody. But Narad was not satisfied. He wanted to give the news of his achievement to Lord Vishnu. So, he went to Lord Vishnu's abode and boasted about his feat of defeating Kamdeva. Vishnu decided to teach him a lesson by humbling his pride. Lord Vishnu uses his illusionary powers of “Maya”. While Narad was returning from Vaikuntha Loka, he saw a beautiful city. This city was ruled by a king named SheelNidhi. The king had a daughter and her Swayamvar was being organised. Narad, curiously entered the place were Swayamvar was being held. Narad was impress by the princess beauty. He returned back to Lord Vishnu and expressed his desire of marrying that princess. He also requested Lord Vishnu to make him as handsome as himself (Vishnu). The Lord Vishnu played a trick and gave the face of a monkey to Narad. The day of the Swayamvara came. Not knowing what had happened to his face, Narad reached the palace where the marriage ceremony was to take place. Princes stood before all the prospective match with garland in her hand. But she was taken aback when she saw Narad. She garlanded the handsome man standing beside Narad .The handsome man was none other than Lord Vishnu. Narad was astonished. He discovered his monkey-face in the reflection of a pool of water and became furious. He cursed Lord Vishnu that in one of his earthly re-incarnations would have to bear the pain of separation from his wife and only a monkey would be able to relieve him of his sufferings. Thus, when Vishnu was born as Rama, Hanuman helped him to free Sita from the bonds of Ravana.

Four heads of Lord Brahma

At the time of creation of universe Lord Brahma made a female known as Shatrupa. He was so attracted with his creation that he could not remove his sight from her. Shatrupa moves in different direction to avoid his gaze. But wherever she went, Lord Brahama developed a head. This results in formation of 4 heads. The Myth of Peepal tree

It is often seen that most astrologer recommend worship of peepal tree as a remedy to mitigate the ill effect of dasha of Saturn. If a girl's horoscope predicts widowhood, she is first married to a peepal tree on chaitra krishna or ashwin krishna tritiya. Peepal tree is a symbol of Lord Vishnu, the preserver god. There is a mythological story behind it. Once, all the gods decided to visit Lord Shiva. However, sage Narad informed them that it was an inappropriate time for a visit. But Indra did not heed the advice and assured the gods that there was nothing to fear when he was there to protect them. Narad reported Indra's arrogance to goddess Parvati. She cursed the gods that they, along with their wives, would turn into trees. When the gods asked for forgiveness, she promised that as trees, they would attain fame. Thus Lord Indra turned into a mango tree, Lord Brahma became a palash tree and Lord Vishnu turned into a peepal tree. Also Goddess Laxmi is believed to have reside the Peepal tree on Saturdays. Lord Krishna is believed to have died under the Peepal tree. In classics the cutting of Peepal tree is consider as sin. Peepal tree is also believed to be the abode of lord yama (god of death) and ancestors. Offerings made at its roots are believed to reach them. Another myth is regarding link between peepal and the Saturday. According to classics Ashvattha and Peepala were two demons who harassed people. Ashvattha would take the form of a peepal and Peepala the form of a Brahmin. The fake Brahmin would advise people to touch the tree, and as soon as they did, Ashvattha would kill them. Later they were both killed by Shani. Because of his influence, it is considered safe to touch the tree on Saturdays. It is believe that one who plant this tree get librated from the bond of life and death

Entry Of Kali Yuga

At the end of Dwapar Yuga when kaliyuga was about to enter, then the king Parikshit prohibited him to stay.He begged and said “ It is destined.I can not turn away.Apart from demerits I have many advantages also.During the Satya Yuga if any one inadvertently committed a wrong deed the entire kingdom had to bear the punishment. During Treta, if any one committed a wrong deed, the people of that town had to bear the punishment. During Dwapar Yuga, if anyone happened to commit a wrong deed, the entire family had to bear the punishment, but in Kali Yuga, he shall only bear the punishment who has committed the wrong deed. Unlike the other eras where one had to bear the punishment for a wrong and bad thoughts, In my era, this will not happen but one shall be bestowed with good fruits who thinks good."But the King Parikshit was not satisfied. Then Kaliyuga said:" One could fulfill all ones wishes and desires in the Satya Yuga only after practicing penance for 10,000 years. Similarly in the Treta Yuga and the Dwapar Yuga, one had to collect a lot of money and perform Yagyas and had to engage in charity, penance, vows and worship for a 100 years respectively to fulfil ones desires. Unlike the others, in this era, if one even prays to God for sometime with total faith and devotions and sings the praises of the Lord, he shall fulfill all his desires within no time.King Parikshit finally allowed Kali Yuga to stay and allowed him to stay four places
1)liquor
2)where a prostitute stays
3)where there is animal slaughter
4)at a place of gambling
Kali Yuga requested that his family was very big that is it comprises of members like lust, anger, greed, ego, jealousy, lies etc.How shall all of them fit in these allotted places? On this king Parikshit said that they should all then reside in gold. In this way, Kali Yuga resides in the 5 places allotted by king Parikshit.

The fate of King Parikshit

King Parikshit was grand son of Arjun. He was a great king in all respect.Once upon a time he went to jungle for hunting. After wandring for long distance he felt hungry and tired. He came across one ashram in which one sage Rishi Shameek, was doing meditation. But unaware of this fact, the king asked for food and water from the sage. But he didn’t get any reply. This made the king Parikshit angry. He picked the dead snake and put it on the shoulder of sage. But the sage didn’t reply. Since the king was very tired so he left the place. The sage had a son, whose name was Shringi. When he heard about the incidence that King Parikshit had insulted his father, he curse the king.He said that the poisonous snake Takshak would bite the man who insulted my innocent father within seven days. The king Parikshit able to knew about his fate through messangers of sage.On the seventh day as the serpent Takshak was coming to bite Parikshit, he met a brahmin. Takshak asked the brahmin where he was going in such a hurry. The brahmin replied that he was going to the court of Parikshit because he could save him from the poison of Takshak.Takshak asked him to prove his powers . So Takshak tried to test him. He bit a green tree and within seconds the tree was turned into ashes as the poison of Takshak was so strong. The brahmin chanted a few mantras and the tree was back to life as lush green as before. Takshak said that he would give the brahmin even more than he expected to get from Parikshit for saving life and that he should go back. The brahmin took the wealth from Takshak and went back happily from where he had come. Having got rid of the brahmin, Takshak went to the kingdom of Parikshit and found that there was no way in which he could get in. He then converted himself into a caterpillar and entered into one of the fruits in the basket which were being taken to the king as an offering. Once inside the king's chambers, Takshak came out of the fruit, assumed his original form and bit Parikshit. Parikshit immediately died and his body turned into ashes. Later Janmejaya was crowned the king. One mistake of King Parikshit costs him a life. All was destined to be happened

Age of Lord Brahma

According to Hindu Philosophy the existence of earth is divided into 4 yugas
1.Satya Yuga(1728000 years)
2.Treta Yuga(1296000 years)
3.Dwapar Yuga(864000 years)
4.Kali Yuga (432000 years)
One Mahayuga=Total of( Satya Yuga+treta Yuga+Dwapar Yuga+Kali yuga)=4320000 years
71 Mahayuga=1 Manavantar
14 Manavantar=1 day of Lord Brahama=4320000000 years(or 1000 mahayugas)
It's intresting that after each manvantar there is a period called "Sandhi kaal" of 1728000 years in which the earth is submerged in water.
Similarly 1 Night of Lord Brhama=4320000000 years
Total of Day+Night=8640000000 years
360 such days makes 1 year of Lord Brahma. Therefore Lord Brahma's 1 year=3110400000000 years
The Total Life span of Lord Brahma is 100 years.
Therefore 1 second of Lord Brahma=100000 years.

Mythological facts
The Birth of Lord Rama happen in Treta yuga of 5th maha yuga.
Birth of Lord Krishna happen in current 28th Mahayuga in dwapar yuga.

Conclusion
Current Kaliyuga begins at 3102 BC
Till 2000 AD 6 Brahamas has already passed.
The Current Brahma is 7th who has already passes 50 years of age.
This is 51st year, first day in which 5 hrs 28 minutes and 48 second has already passed
As already stated before that in each day there are 14 manvantar of 71 mahayuga each.
Now 7th Manvantar is running.
In this manvantar of 71 mahyuga 27 mahayuga has already passed.
The current is 28th mahayuga.
In current mahayuga we are in kaliyuga in which 5102 years has already passed.
I we total them we get that age of Lord Brahama as 1,972,949,102 human years .
Wow!!!!!!Is'nt it Amazing !!!!!!
Hope your calculator will support above calculations.

The Story of Shaligram

According to the Puranas once a fierce battle broke out between Lord Shiva and the demon Shankhchura. Lord Shiva knew it well, that unless the chastity of Vrinda, the wife of Shankhchura, was spoiled, Shankhchura could not be killed.

To defeat Gods ,Shankhchura reached Parvati in the guise of Lord Shiva. But Parvati, knew by her virtues the craftiness of Shankhchura. She at once ended his guise and signalled Lord Krishna (Vishnu) that it was now just to spoil the chastity of Shankhchura's wife, Vrinda, and it will not be a sin .
So, Lord Krishna approached Vrinda in the guise of Shankhchura. Vrinda could not understand the craftiness, and as the Lord in guise form went for outing with her. In ancient time it was like a sin for a woman even to think about other man(In Modern society also if a female is found with unknown man, the questions are raised against the woman). Later on when Vrinda came to know the reality, she cursed Lord Krishna - go and turn into shapeless black stone.

Thus by the curse of a chaste woman Lord Krishna turned into a blackstone. But later on Vrinda felt guilty Thus begging pardon of God, she sought a boon that from that moment onward, God will be worshipped in the same stone form. Also she got a boon that she will also worshipped in the form of tree as Tulsi and Lord said that without your worship, mine worship will not be complete. . God accepted her curse and turned into a black stone, and came to be known as Shaligrama.

Secret of the trunk of Lord Ganesha

Most Ganesha idols are depicted with the trunk turning towards the left. The left side of our body symbolises the feminine side of our personality. It represents the moon. It is cool and relaxed.
The right side represents the masculine aspect, and symbolises the sun – hot, fiery and aggressive.A Ganesha idol having its trunk curved towards the right, is called the ‘siddhi vinayaka’ and needs special worship. It is said that one should be very careful in worshipping such idols. The puja that is performed on such an idol is supposed to be done after fulfilling all religious requirements and by adhering to a strict code of conduct.
According to the nadi system of the human body espoused by Hinduism, there are three nadis or channels which are responsible for overall health - the left channel is called the Ida Nadi and is connected to the right side and the back of the brain. This channel looks after our emotional life and our past. The right side channel is called as the Pingala Nadi. It is connected with the left side and the front of the brain. This channel controls the supraconscious mind. It creates our future.
The Sushumna is the central channel for our evolution. It is through this channel that we become collectively conscious It makes the connection between our conscious mind and the Spirit, which is a reflection of God.According to Hindu mythology, the direction of Lord Ganesha's trunk is related to these nadis. Since the Ida Nadi is on the left side, while the Pingala Nadi is on the right, the left-turning trunk has easy rules and one can do puja without following strict rules, since the Ida Nadi is the moon. But, the right turning trunk is the sun and will burn one, if rules are violated. When the trunk is facing straight, then it signifies that the Sushumna is entirely open.
Another logic is that the idol with a right-sided trunk is called dakshinabhimukhi murti (the idol facing the south). Dakshin means the southern direction .The southern direction leads to the region of Yama (Yamalok), the deity of death. The one who is able to face the direction of Yama's region is strong.Ganapati with the right-sided trunk is said to be 'active (jagrut)'. The ritualistic worship of this idol is performed observing all the norms of ritualistic worship meticulously.
The idol with the trunk towards the left is called Vamamukhi. Vam means the northern direction or the left side. Since the northern direction is spiritually favorable; it bestows Bliss; hence the Vamamukhi Ganapati is more commonly worshipped.

Curse to Moon

Twenty-seven of Daksha’s daughters were married to the moon-god Chandra. One of these wives was named Rohini and Chandra loved Rohini more than he loved the other wives. The other wives felt neglected and they complained to their father. Daksha repeatedly warned his son-in-law to devote himself equally to all twenty-seven wives. But Chandra was in no mood to listen. Daksha thereupon cursed Chandra that he would gradually fade away. Brahma told him that the only recourse was to pray to Shiva. Chandra went to Prabhasa tirtha and made a lingam on the banks of the river Sarasvati. He prayed to Shiva for six months. At the end of the tapasya Shiva appeared before Chandra and offered to grant him a boon. Lord Shiva said ,  "Daksha’s curse cannot be entirely ignored. During krishnapaksha you will wane. And during shuklapaksha (the bright part of the lunar fortnight) you will wax. That should satisfy everybody. "   Chandra was delighted. The lingam to which Chandra prayed is Somantha, the first of the Jyotirlingas.

Curse to Lord Brahma

Once Vishnu and Brahmā approached a huge Shiva linga and set out to find it's beginning and end. Vishnu was appointed the end, and Brahma the beginning. Each took their journey, Vishnu took the form of a boar and began digging downwards into the earth while Brahma took on the shape of a swan began flying upwards. But neither could find their appointed destination. Vishnu, satisfied, came up to Shiva and bowed down to him . Brahmā did not give up so easily. As he was going up, he saw a ketki flower, dear to Shiva. His ego forced him to ask the flower to bear false witness of Brahmā's finding Shiva's beginning. Also during his return journey he found a cow. He force her also to gave false witness. When Brahmā told his tale, Shiva, the all-knowing, was angered by the former's ego. Shiva thus cursed him that no being in the three worlds will worship him. From that day flower of ketki is not offerd to shiva linga. Also Lord Shiva curse the cow that she will have to depend upon the rotten food in the kaliyuga

The Story of Saturday

Once there were two sisters Lakshmi and Daridra. Lakshmi was the goddess of wealth while Daridra was the goddess of poverty. Though they were real sisters, their behaviour towards others and temperament were totally different. Lakshmi got up early in the morning. She took her bath regularly. She remembered God regularly. Daridra was very lazy. She got up very late. She did not take her bath. Washing clothes was a rare occasion for her.. She generally told lies and befooled others. Goddess Lakshmi was very much liked by Lord Krishna and he married her happily. Daridra remained alone. She became sad.

One day Lakshmi said to Lord Krishna, “ Daridra is my real sister. Please arrange for her marriage”.Lakshmi said,” Arrange her marriage with a Rishi. He would not expect much from her because most of his time he would be busy performing religious rites”.Lord Krishna agreed. He searched for a suitable match for Daridra. A Rishi agreed to marry her.
Goddess Lakshmi was happy that a Rishi had accepted her sister Daridra could not accept Rishi’s way of life. She went to Lakshmi again. She looked very shabby and disorderly. Lakshmi felt pity for her. She said to Krishna, “Please arrange a suitable abode for her”.
Lord Krishna accepted Lakshmi’s request. All the three came down to earth together. Krishna spotted out a Peepal tree in a lonely corner. They went to that tree. Lord Krishna said to Daridra, “You can reside under this tree. This is a lonely place suited to your temperament. You need not clean this place daily. None would visit this place either. You may live as you please.” Daridra said, “I will be fed up with lonely life. Lonely place is an abode of ghosts. Please do visit me frequently with my sister, Lakshmi.”

Lord Krishna agreed. He gave a word to her that he would visit and stay at the peepal tree on every Saturday alongwith Lakshmi. From that day onwards, people visit Peepal tree on every Saturday. They water it and offer their prayers, knowing well that Lord Krishna and Lakshmi reside in the tree on Saturdays.

The Garuda

Garuda is one of principal animal deities in the Hindu Mythology Kashyap, Garuda's father, had two wives: Kadru, the elder, and Vinata, Garuda's mother, the younger. There was great rivalry between the two wives.. Once, they had an argument over the color of the horse Uchchaisravas, produced during the churning of the Milk Ocean just after the time of creation. Each chose a color and laid a wager on her own choice. The one who lost would become the other's slave. Kadru proved to be right and, as part of the agreement, imprisoned Vinata in the nether regions, Patala, where she was guarded by serpents. The serpents are, according to another myth, the sons of Kadru herself. Garuda, on hearing of his mother's imprisonment, descended to Patala and asked the serpents to release Vinata. They agreed to do so and demanded as ransom a cup of amrita (ambrosia). So Garuda set off for the celestial mountain where the amrita was kept. Before he could get to the amrita he had to overcome three hazards set up by the gods to guard the celestial drink. First, Garuda came upon a ring of flames fanned by high winds. They roared and leapt up to the sky but Garuda drank up several rivers and extinguished the flames. Next, Garuda came upon a circular doorway. A very rapidly spinning wheel with sharp spikes on the spokes guarded it. Garuda made himself very small and slipped through the turning spokes. Lastly, Garuda had to defeat two fire-spitting serpents guarding the amrita. He flapped his wings rapidly and blew dust into the eyes of the monsters and blinded them. Then he cut them to pieces with his sharp beak. So Garuda finally reached the amrita and started to fly back with it to the nether regions but the gods anticipated his purpose and gave chase. Indra, king of the gods, struck him with his thunderbolt but Garuda proved a superior warrior and defeated the gods and continued unscathed on his journey to Patala. When the serpents got the amrita they were overjoyed and released Vinata. . Also, since the celestial drink was very strong, their tongues were split and that is why, to this day, serpents have forked tongues. Garuda got his mother back but he became an inveterate enemy of the serpents, the sons of his mother's rival Kadru. Also the serpents, the Nagas, symbolized evil and that automatically invoked Garuda's hatred.

Shani -The lame planet

At the time when Ravana's son was about to born all the planets were in favourable position except Saturn who was about to change the position.Ravana , a person of immense occult power, commanded Saturn to come and stay in the 11th House of his son, Indrajith, the 11th House being the best house for Saturn to be in. Saturn, with his innate laziness, came and stayed at the 11th house but put his foot in the 12th ( the worst house for Saturn to be in ). An enraged Ravana cut off his leg and the entire mass of blood and bones went and stayed at the Ascendant ( Lagna ) as Gulika !!!
It is believe that person having saturn in 12House of horoscope is more prone to feet injury

Birth Of Shani

Suryadev(son of Brahma) was married to Sangya.Sangya was the daughter of Vishwakarma. Yama, the God of death and the river Yamuna and Vaiswat Manu are believed to be the childern of Sun & Sangya.Sangya finding it unbearable to live with the harsh glare of Surya's light, created her own replica and named her as chaya and asked her to behave as Surya's wife and perform all the duties and savour the privileges of a wife. She made her promise that under no condition would she reveal to Suryadev that she was not Sangya and promised to help her when needed.

Sangya went back to her father Daksha. When Daksha saw that his daughter coming back, he advised her that she better live with her husband only. The dejected Sangya did not follow her father's advise and instead transformed herself into a mare and resided in the Himalayas and started penance.

Chaya performed the role of dutiful wife. Shani was the son of Chaya & Sun. Surya did not have any doubts about Chaya. One day Sun observe that Chaya didnit treat the Yama & his siblings lovingly. This raises doubts in his mind.Chaya confessed that she was a 'shadow' of Sangya and that Sangya had gone to the Himalaya for penance. On listening he dejected chaya. This cause the enemosity between Sun & Saturn.
It is said that when he opened his eyes as a baby for the very first time, the sun went into an eclipse, which clearly denotes the impact of Shani on astrological charts (horoscope).

Lord Hanuman & Shani Devta

Saturn descended on Hanuman when he was busy building a bridge over the ocean to help Rama and his army cross over to Lanka. Hanuman requested the planet to postpone his visit till he had successfully assisted Rama in regaining Sita. But Saturn was adamant and Hanuman had to bow against the will of nature. He suggested that Saturn sit on his (Hanuman's) head as his hands were engaged in serving Rama and his legs were too lowly for Saturn.

Saturn happily settled on Hanuman's head and the mighty Hanuman continued with his work, piling heavy boulders and stones on his head in an apparently casual manner and carrying them to the construction site. After a while Saturn found it impossible to bear the load of the heaped boulders any longer and wished to climb down. Hanuman insisted that he complete his mandatory seven-and-a-half years but Saturn pleaded for release saying that the seven-and-a-half minutes he stayed on Hanuman's head felt like seven-and-a-half years anyway. Thus speaking Saturn took leave of Hanuman and since then worshippers of Hanuman rest assured that the unavoidable ill effects of Saturn's sade-sati (seven-and-a-half year's stay) can be whittled down by a true devotion to Hanuman.

Shani ki drishti

When King Ravana succeeded in getting the control over all the nine planets, he installed them face downward on the nine steps that led to his throne. Each morning, he would step on their back to ascend his throne, causing insult and anguish to them. One day the sage Narada came to Ravana, and upon seeing the state of the nine planets asked Shani, how as the mightiest and the most terrible of the planets, he can bear this insult? Shani replied that because he is laying face downward he is helpless, if only he can cast his gaze on Ravana, matters would change. After Narada was shown around the magnificent palace of Ravana the proud king wanted his opinion. The wise sage replied that everything was excellent at the palace of Ravana, except for one. That was, how can Ravana get the pleasure of subduing the nine planets when they are lying face downward? It is better if they were to lay face upward so that when Ravana stepped over their chests, he could get the pleasure of seeing their discomfort on their faces. This suggestion appealed to the mighty king and he quickly ordered his staff to turn the nine planets around on their backs. As soon as that was done, Shani's gaze fell on Ravana and his reason abandoned him. Within a few months he kidnapped Sita, the wife of Lord Rama that led to Lord Rama's invasion of his kingdom. Ravana and his entire family was killed, all this during the seven and half year cycle of Shani.
